Roof-Removal Labor Classification Audit · NCCI 5551 · TradeBook v1
● Beta · v2 — argument direction corrected, review before use

What changed in v2 — read this once

The previous version argued that tear-off labor should be reallocated from roofing (RFG) to demolition (DMO), citing WC class code 5551. That was backwards. NCCI 5551 is the roofing code — “ROOFING—ALL KINDS & DRIVERS” — and its scope covers repair of existing roofs down to the deck and sheathing. NCCI publishes no roof-removal code and no standalone demolition code; wrecking classes describe demolition of whole structures, assigned by construction material.

Xactimate already defaults the labor trade on a roofing remove activity to demolition, which prices that labor well below roofing. So the audit runs the other way: DMO → RFG. Demo-priced labor on a roof is either understated roofing labor or misclassified workers — and there is no third option.

Every class code below carries the confidence rating from the TradeBook workbook. Anything reading REVIEW or UNVERIFIED is shown as a caution and is deliberately withheld from the copy-ready finding. Nothing is guessed into a letter.

Printed Xactimate line items carry no category code — the description text is the trade signal, and the Recap by Category section at the back is where categories actually appear. The reader uses both.

4 · Removal-rate check (manual)

Two separate data points, per doctrine: the removal $/SQ and the squares. Don’t collapse them. Enter the rates off the estimate you are auditing — the tool ships with no default rate, because no per-state removal-rate threshold has been verified in the TradeBook research.

5 · Copy-ready finding

Letter-safe by construction: it says the pricing is inconsistent with proper classification, never that anyone “violates” anything. Re-verify the cited class on the day the letter goes out — the research behind this table was accessed .

6 · Send to Compass

Files the estimate to the claim’s Drive folder and appends the finding as a Stage 6 (negotiation) note. Team device only — uses your saved Compass settings.
